Feeding South Dakota is a hunger relief organization and are fighting daily to eliminate hunger in this state. In FY18, Feeding South Dakota as a whole distributed 12.2 million pounds of food in the fight against hunger. Every single week, Feeding South Dakota assists in providing temporary food assistance to approximately 21,000 hungry individuals and families in our state and their BackPack Program gives food every weekend to over 5,500 kids who otherwise might go hungry.

I recently spoke with Jennifer Stensaas, the marketing & communications coordinator through email about their upcoming event. Below is the information she provided. If you donate anything or even donate your time, that would be amazing!

“Pack the Pickup” food drive is coming up this Saturday, April 20th from 8 am – 3 pm at all Sioux Falls Walmart’s along with the Walmart in Spearfish. We will have a Billion truck outside of each store, collecting non-perishable goods that people purchase in Walmart. We also have volunteers at each location that will have small hand-outs for customers listing our most needed food items but for your ease, have listed them below:

·         Peanut Butter & Jelly
·         Cereal
·         Boxed Meals (i.e. Hamburger Helper, Tuna Helper)
·         Pasta and Rice
·         Canned fruits
·         Canned vegetables
·         Canned meats and canned pasta
·         Soup

If you know of any volunteers that would be willing to help at one of the stores on Saturday, have them reach out to me!

Here is the contact information if you are interested in helping!
